Geotrek mobile applications

Preamble

Geotrek is a free and open-source software suite dedicated to managing and promoting trails, hiking routes and natural areas.

Geotrek consists of three main components:

• Geotrek-admin, the internal tool used by managing organisations to enter and manage their data (trails, points of interest, events, etc.);
• Geotrek-rando, the public web portal for promoting routes, tourist activities and outdoor activities;
• Geotrek-mobile, the mobile application, available on the App Store (Apple) and Google Play Store (Android), which allows hikers to view the same content directly on their smartphone, including offline, and makes it easier for them to locate themselves along routes.

Each organisation wishing to promote its trails deploys its own instances of these tools: a Department, a regional natural park, a community of municipalities, a tourist office or any other managing body can therefore publish its own Geotrek mobile application, under its own name and with its own content.

This page, published on the official website geotrek.fr, is intended to describe, in general terms and for all mobile applications based on the Geotrek suite, the practices applied to the processing of personal data.

It provides first-level information and does not replace any Privacy Policy that may be specific to each instance.

Responsibility for the collection and processing of personal data via Geotrek-mobile

Who is responsible for data processing?

Within the meaning of the GDPR, responsibility for processing personal data lies solely with the organisation responsible for each Geotrek instance deployed in its name.

The data controller for each Geotrek-mobile application is therefore the organisation operating the relevant Geotrek instance (local authority, natural park, joint association, tourist office, etc.), i.e. the organisation whose name and content appear in the application you use.

Each organisation operating a Geotrek instance is encouraged to draft and publish its own “Personal data / Privacy Policy” page describing its own practices, contact channels and, where applicable, any specific arrangements relating to the collection and management of personal data on Geotrek-rando (the web portal) and Geotrek-mobile (the application).

Makina Corpus, as the technical manager of the Geotrek suite, develops and maintains the software solely in its capacity as a technical service provider. Makina Corpus does not publish the content, does not use hiking data, and has no access to any personal data of end users, since such data is neither collected nor transmitted by the applications.

General principle governing the use of Geotrek-mobile: no personal data is collected

No “sensitive data” within the meaning of the GDPR (racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health data, biometric data, etc.) is, of course, collected.

Use of geolocation (GPS)

As a mapping and hiking-route tracking application, the application may ask for permission to access your device's location.

This feature is provided under the following conditions:

• Strictly local processing: your location is used in real time, solely on your phone, to display your position on the map, calculate your progress along a route or record a track that you choose to keep.
• No transmission to a server: this location data is not sent to any server, whether belonging to the operating organisation, Makina Corpus or any third party.
• Full control over location permission: you can allow, refuse or withdraw access to geolocation at any time from your smartphone settings (iOS or Android), without affecting the application's other features (viewing information sheets, offline maps, etc.).

Downloaded content and offline use

The application allows maps, hiking information sheets and associated multimedia content (text, images) to be downloaded for offline use. This content is stored locally on the device and is not associated with any identity or user profile.

Third-party services

Statistical tracking services and tracking cookies

Geotrek-mobile applications do not use any third-party advertising tracking, audience analysis or data resale services.

App stores (App Store / Google Play) and management of your personal data

Geotrek-mobile applications are downloaded and installed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. To date, these are the only parties likely to collect technical data about you (device identifier, download statistics, etc.), under their own privacy policies, independently of the applications themselves.

For any questions relating to this data, please contact Apple or Google directly through their respective privacy policies.

Retention period

As no personal data is collected or transmitted by default, no retention period applies. The only data stored (recorded GPS tracks, downloaded content) is stored exclusively on the user's device, under their sole control, and can be deleted at any time using the application's features or by uninstalling it.

Your rights regarding your personal data

In accordance with the GDPR, you always have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability in relation to any personal data concerning you.

Given the absence of collection described above, these rights are exercised primarily through your direct exchanges with the organisation operating the application.

If you believe that your data protection rights are not being respected, you may lodge a complaint with the CNIL:

Questions about your personal data? Who should you contact?

For any questions relating to your personal data when using an application from the Geotrek suite, please follow the order below:

1. If your question concerns technical data related to downloading or installing the application (device identifier, store statistics, etc.): this data is collected exclusively by the stores. Please therefore contact Apple or Google, which are solely responsible for this processing.
2. If your question is general and concerns the application itself, its content or its use: identify the organisation operating the Geotrek-mobile instance you use and contact it:
   • via its Geotrek-rando portal, if the organisation has one (contact details are generally provided there);
   • or via the organisation's general website (local authority, natural park, tourist office, etc.).
3. As a last resort, if you are unable to identify or contact the operating organisation, you can use the contact form on this geotrek.fr website to be directed to the appropriate contact within the relevant organisation.

Changes to this policy

Although we do not plan to change our approach regarding the non-collection of personal data via Geotrek-mobile, we may update this document to reflect technical or legal changes.

Any changes to this Privacy Policy will be indicated by the “Last updated” date shown at the top of this page.
